Keelan is a Year 13 student at Salisbury's UTC who focuses his study on computer science, maths and engineering. He needs these qualifications as he hopes to go into Cyber Security ,
So what's Keelan's story?
Before coming to South Wiltshire UTC, I attended Harrow Way Community School in Andover.
I chose to come here because I eventually want to work in cyber security, and I liked the subject options on offer at the UTC. It also has great connections with businesses in the industry that I want to work in.
I’m studying Electronics and Computer Science at A-Level, as well as doing the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering.
I like the fact a large majority of the teachers here have a background in the industry relevant to the subject they are teaching. This allows them to explain how the work we do in lessons will be relevant within industry, as well as teach us things a less professionally experienced teacher may not be able to. It helps give a real insight into how the world outside of education works.
The UTC is very different from my last school. Here, it’s very professional in comparison, and we have the opportunity to make valuable connections with companies - that wasn’t much of an option at school.
Getting here is simple; it’s a 10minute walk from the train station, and a 20minute train journey from Andover, which isn’t too bad for me personally.
This is definitely the place to go if you’re interested in STEM subjects and I’m confident the UTC will help me get where I want to go.
