First ever A Level results!

First ever set of A Level results were celebrated by students at South Wiltshire UTC, as they collected their exam results on August 17.

Engineering saw a 100 per cent pass rate, with an average grade of Distinction, which contributed to the UTCs overall 90% pass rate.

South Wiltshire UTC opened its doors in September 2015 at the newly refurbished former police HQ on Wilton Road.

Joe Mulligan, Principal, said: "We are really pleased with our first set of Post 16 results, both in our specialist STEM subjects with over 90% pass rate in some traditionally challenging subjects including Maths, Further Maths and Physics and a 100% pass rate in Engineering with an average grade of Distinction. We are delighted to see so many of our students achieving their expected places at a wide range of Universities, or taking up some excellent apprenticeship offers.”

18 year old UTC students, Lee Dickenson and Sam Waters have both been accepted on a two year apprenticeship in engineering at Twinings in Andover. Both of them gained Distinction in their BTEC National Engineering.

After the two year apprenticeship the pair hope to continue working at Twinings with the opportunity of being funded through a HND/Degree programme in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.

Steven Hawkins, who gained A Level grades B,B,Cin Maths, Computer Science and Physics is joining DSTL on a software engineering apprenticeship.

Euan Mauchline, who gained A level graded A,B,B in Maths, Further Maths and Computer Science is going to the University of Exeter to study Physics.

“We want to congratulate all our students and wish them well as they take up their places at university, employment, or next stage in their education. Some of our students were able to overcome really challenging personal circumstances to achieve excellent results and they all should be proud of what they have accomplished,” said Joe Mulligan.
